In this level of the planning investigations toolkit you will learn about:

• how to explicitly teach about variables and planning a fair test.

• how to support students to generate “testable questions” as the basis for their scientific investigation.

Level 1 ‘Planning Investigations’ is designed to help you to confidently select examples of fair tests from a range of teaching resources that suit your theme, test them for safety requirements and plan for students being able to conduct the investigation in the class. This involves teaching about the steps to be undertaken when following a procedure and selection of appropriate equipment for the task at hand.
