Overview

Outcomes

Engage students in substantive communication of science investigations for a variety of audiences through the selection and appropriate use of a range of media for oral, written or multimedia presentations.

You will achieve this through a focus on:

  • learning how to help students modify texts to address audience requirements

  • learning how to help students appropriately select and use media.

Oral communication is an important focus as students frequently celebrate their MyScience achievements in a science fair in which students display their investigations. Using materials such as charts or media presentations effectively accommodates communication of findings to the wide range of audiences that attend science fairs or displays- parents, scientist mentors, junior pupils and siblings. This pathway should help you address these requirements. More information about incorporating ICT into student presentations is available in the ‘Integrating ICT’ learning pathways.

Level ‘Processing Investigations—explaining and publishing’ had a focus on identifying the role of explanatory, procedural and discussion texts and scientific terminology in compiling a report on a scientific investigation and learning how to explicitly teach the features of such texts.
