Overview

Outcomes

Within a context of science investigations, teach students how to correctly tabulate, calculate averages, graph and analyse data, think logically and draw conclusions.

You will achieve this through a focus on:

  • explicitly teaching the skills for data analysis including tabulation (putting or recording data into tables)

  • calculation of averages and graphing of data

  • gaining skills in comparing data sets such as recorded (actual) data with predicted data to look for confirmation of hypotheses

Where to next?

Level 2 ‘Processing—Analysing and Concluding’ focuses on understanding of the impact of sources of error on data interpretation and logical thinking in a range of situations, including discussing the implications of the results of an investigation. If you want to learn more about the use of ICT to support processing investigation results go to the level 1 ‘Integrating ICT’.
