Richard E Collins

Richard Collins was born in 1940 in Queensland Australia, and completed his degree at the University of Sydney. From 1961 to 1978 he held a research position at Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd. During this time he completed his Ph.D. at New York University. In 1978 Richard Collins became Principal Lecturer and Head of the Department of Applied Physics at the New South Wales Institute of Technology.
In 1980 he was appointed Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Sydney, where he received an Award for Excellence in Teaching. For four years until Richard Collins’ retirement at the end of 2000, he was Head of the University’s School of Physics. He was Director of the Science Foundation for Physics from 1997 until 2002. Richard Collins has served as Chair of several Australian Government bodies, including the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, the Energy Research and Development Corporation, and the National Standards Commission. He recently published a book Lots of Scars about his life
